“Are you serious?”
Jack was a little more than surprised by this
gesture. It was…It was different and she felt
as if she found her place within Shepard’s
crew. This meant the world to her, to find
her mother, to figure out her past. To
understand her lineage, even if she
came from dirty, or wealth it meant a lot
to her.

Shepard gave a slight shrug of her shoulders. “Yeah, why wouldn’t I be? If the information is there, then why not? I did say full access.” She was looking at Jack more directly now. The commander liked Jack. Despite her tough exterior and the penchant for violence, the other woman had shown Shepard that there was more to her than rage fueled biotics. If she could help her to see that about herself, Shepard would do what she could. And despite the risk that her mother might not be alive or wouldn’t live up to expectation, she figured it was worth it just to take steps towards healing.

Straight faced, she stared back at her Commander. ‘You picked me up before on Mars- I don’t see the issue…’ Lips curled into a smile and a soft laugh escaped her before she held her head in pain once more. ‘You’re so damn nice to me ma’am, I can’t thank you enough.’ Walking with her, she gave her a small pat on the back and stepped into the kitchen area of mess hall.

The commander’s smile faded for a minute, remembering how Ashley had looked when they disembarked from said planet. Then Shepard seemed to put the memory aside and gave the LC a wry smile. “Yeah, I wasn’t hung over on Mars… and you didn’t smell like vomit.” Perhaps she shouldn’t have had that last bottle of wine, but the headache she had seemed far better in comparison with Williams’ symptoms. “See, you say that now… but you’ve never tasted my cooking.” The smile spread into a grin.
’I think I- I want to die… No- no eggs commander.’ She held her head in pain, eyes squinting up to her Commander. ‘I’m gonna be sick first-’ Ash breathed out, barely making it to a trash bin. ‘Oh God in the heavens or wherever you are- please have mercy on my soul.’ Amber eyes stared up at Shepard, completely ashamed. ‘Okay, I’m ready for those eggs ma’am.’

Shepard stifled a smile. “Oh, come on, it’s not so bad.” She scrunched up one corner of her mouth sympathetically until she saw her friend going for the rubbish bin. “Okay, okay, I’ve got you. It’s okay.” She gripped Ashley’s arm reassuringly with one hand and brushed her hair away from her face with the other until the other woman was finished, then she released her with a well intended pat to her arm. “Better?” Shepard asked, eyebrows drawn. Ashley’s answer made her laugh. “That’s all it took, eh? Alright, let’s get you to the mess. Can you walk? Because I can’t really carry you…”
The asari whirled around at that sound— it was unexpected, at least at that moment. “Shepard!” She breathed her name, her eyes glimmering with excitement over the sight of her beloved Commander. It had felt like it had been so long since she last laid her eyes upon her. “Nyseris, hold my calls.” Liara approached the woman carefully, her eyes softening on her features. “My sources told me you were alive…but I did not believe it…It is good to see you..” She leaned in slightly for a kiss, though stopped herself and looked elsewhere.

It had been a warm welcome, something the soldier had ached for. But when Liara got close to her, the asari pulled back. Shepard blinked at her, then realized that she’d brought Garrus and Mordin with her. Liara was probably just shy– especially since she didn’t know Mordin at all. “You remember Garrus Vakarian, and this is Mordin Solus.” Actually, Shepard thought that Mordin and Liara might get along. Scientist and archaeologist weren’t too far apart. Though, from the looks of it, Liara wasn’t much into archaeology these days. “How are you doing, Liara?” She couldn’t keep the concern from her voice.

“A future,” the Geth stated. It wasn’t so much what the future was that the Geth built, but that they did it that mattered. There were no plans for the future, no schematics for vessels, no blueprints for buildings, no planets they desired to inhabit. Just the future itself. “The contents are inconsequential. As a human would be proud of what they built regardless of what is was, so will the Geth be with our future.”

The commander thought about that for a moment, she was certain Legion could see her thinking, considering what he’d said. “You know, despite the fact that geth supposedly aren’t capable of emotions, I think I still disagree with that statement. I think it matters very much what you set out to build. I mean, they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, but…” She paused briefly and reflected on the expression. “Well, I don’t think the road to heaven is paved with bad ones. Know what I mean?”
Wrex chuckled loudly at Shepard’s question, even though it was against her request. “Planning on headbutting someone soon?” He asked as his laughter dies down. “Because if you really want to know I can tell you how to do it so it hurts them and not you.”

Shepard pouted at the krogan for a moment, but his laughter was infectious and she found herself smiling despite his clear disregard for the commander’s request. “Come on Wrex, I’m being serious. One day I’m going to headbutt someone and when I do, I’d like to be secure in the knowledge that I’m headbutting them properly. Besides, how would it reflect on you if I couldn’t manage even the mildest of concussions? On my opponent, of course. I’d prefer to avoid my own concussion, to be clear."
