“I am fine,” she answered truthfully. “I have been keeping myself busy with my work…I have been working as an information broker. Its paid the bills since you…well…for the past two years. And…now your back.” She glanced up to the commander with her wide blue eyes— no longer ringing with innocence as they had when they first met. “I have been keeping myself updated on your quest to destroy the Collectors—- I wish I could..with you—” Liara had cut herself off, her gaze looking behind the Commander’s shoulders to Garrus and the Salarian. “How have you been, Shepard?"

Everything was different. Shepard couldn’t point to one thing and say there, that’s it because she was overwhelmed by the change. Liara looked ten years older, rather than two. Not in her physique, but in her gaze. She seemed tired, haggard, almost. She was dressed differently, had changed to an entirely more dangerous line of work– not to mention an often morally bankrupt one. What the hell had happened here? The commander parted her lips slightly, unable to keep the look of unmitigated concern from her face. Liara had asked her a question, but pleasantries suddenly seemed irrelevant. "I’m fine. What happened?” The answer she gave was dismissive– her own troubles could wait, and they would. The question, however, was pointed. She wanted to know what had put that look in Liara’s eyes. She wanted to know why the asari didn’t kiss her.
